The SOS 2016 theme is “Ocean 2030: Sustainable Development Goals and the Ocean Business Community”.
The World Ocean Council (WOC) will hold the 4th Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS) in Rotterdam, Nov 30 – Dec 2, 2016. The SOS is the only international, multi-sectoral, business event dedicated to sustainable development, science and stewardship of the seas, and is now an annual event. This unique ocean industry gathering will address the 2015-2030 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and what they mean for the ocean business community. The Rotterdam event will spotlight the targets and indicators being developed with and for the Ocean Business Community via the WOC during 2016.
The Opening Plenary of the World Ocean Council (WOC) Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS), Rotterdam, 30 Nov-2 Dec 2016, will include:
• Erik Solheim, Director, U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP); U.N. Under-Secretary-General
• Vladimir Ryabinin, Executive Secretary, UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)
• Joao Aguiar Machado, Director General, DG MARE, European Commission
Additional industry leaders and senior representatives from government, inter-governmental bodies and other organizations are being added daily to the list of SOS speaker and participants. For a list of the CEOs and senior representatives who have participated in the SOS, click here.
The WOC SOS continues to develop as the only international, multi-sectoral industry leadership event dedicated to ocean sustainable development.
The SOS is uniquely designed to bring together leadership companies from the diverse Ocean Business Community: shipping, oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, seabed mining, tourism, renewable energy, ports, dredging, mining, submarine cables, marine science, engineering and technology, the maritime legal, financial and insurance communities, and others – as well as ocean stakeholders from the government, inter-governmental, academic and environment communities.
